Bixi’s second EP ‘Natural’ is announced, bringing the deephouse groove of the artist back into the spotlight

Bixi entered the scene with a well-travelled path behind him and lots of potential stretching out in front. When creating under his already established name of Lokke, the Switzerland based artist was best connected with jazz guided downtempo releases, but interaction with other styles has been as common as his numerous aliases. The realization of his most recent project came back in March 2019, as the first EP from Bixi was released and jazz tones were put aside for sounds more at home in the territory of house and afrobeat.

Now partnered with Canadian record label ‘Breathing Room Records’, Bixi’s production style has shifted to meet the group’s deep love for percussion, and embraced organic tones as a more intrinsic element to his sound. In his debut EP ‘Aquarius’ Bixi brought out groove rhythms interlined with natural samples of birdsong, constructing ambient backdrops vibrant enough to work alongside deephouse beats and electronic basslines. Tropical colour, organic samples and a living pulse of afrobeat are part of what brought life to Aquarius.

Now, the wait until Bixi’s next release has almost ended. With his second EP slated for August 14th, pre-releases have appeared and we’ve been able to listen into the rich funk and house vibes of ‘Natural’.

An EP comprised of four tracks, Natural will begin a series of releases for Breathing Room, and the percussion fed sound treasured by the label makes the EP an instinctive fit for their collection. The organic theme that Bixi has been playing with comes to the forefront, with sampling discarded in favour of community grown homemade sound. The current pre-release track ‘Moka’ runs guitar lines alongside mellow pads, but the final track list shows a variety of flavour, with Moka’s summertime melodies in the company of self-assured bass guitar, warbling keys and dancefloor vibes. Expect a tightly packed EP, rich in colour and deep in organic landscapes.
